Starving yourself to lose weight March 21, 2010

I have heard many women say they need to starve themselves to lose weight. This kind of thinking astounds me. Why would people think this is the proper / healthy way to lose some pounds?

Here is what you are doing to your body when you "starve" it or severely reduce your caloric intake :

You will lack the energy you need to get through your day and your workout. Since you can't keep up this starvation process for a lengthy amount of time you will gain the weight back that you lost once you start eating again. After all, we do need to eat to live!

When you skip a meal, your body stores more of the next one, and your metabolism also slows down, even if just a little.

Starving seems like a quick and easy way to get the body of your dreams. It might work physically; inside, however, you are slowing, and sometimes quickly, just killing yourself.

You are hurting your brain, your muscle mass, the strength of your bones, your vital organs. If you want to lose weight, and keep it off, wouldn't you want to do the best and healthiest thing?

An alternative to actually starving yourself is only eating foods in their natural form. This is called "clean eating". Eat plenty of fruits and raw vegetables, complex carbohydrates and lean proteins. Get rid of any sugar in your diet and that will take away the cravings.

Give yourself 3 weeks of clean eating and you will see how much more energy you have. It's very simple. Eat 5-6 small meals a day and eat every 2-3 hours to keep your body fueled! Don't forget to drink plenty of water.

Stay healthy everyone, this is the only body we have, we need to take care of our bodies, mind and spirit!!

March 13, 2010 Protein bar recipe

Alot of people have asked me for the recipe for my protein bars so here it is:

2 cups oats (flakes)
1 T. Flaxseed
4 scoops protein powder ( I currently have banana flavored)
1/2 cup natural peanut butter or almond butter
1/2 cup water

Mix all of that together, put in a 9x9 glass pan lined with wax paper. Freeze for 30 minutes.

When you take it out of the freezer let it sit on the counter for 15 minutes or so. Remove the wax paper and cut the bars into the size you desire.

This is a perfectly balanced snack of protein carbohydrates and fat.

*You can add chopped walnuts to this as well. I used almond butter yesterday for the first time and liked it much better than using peanut butter.

February 28, 2010 P90X

Well today marks my 90 days of P90X!! I feel so accomplished and a bit emotional at the same time. What a journey it has been, there were days of struggle trying to fit my workout in but I never failed. I went into this knowing it would be a huge commitment.

I will never forget the day I started, it was the Monday before Thanksgiving. I thought that was the best time to start, right BEFORE the holidays and not after! I also began my clean eating regime the same day. I cut out alcohol and anything that isn't processed in it's natural state.

I remember seeing results with P90X in 2 weeks! Just 2 weeks!!! I had no idea the changes that could be made in 90 days! As a 44 year old I am excited to see cuts in my abs! I'm addicted and want more!!

Round 2 begins next Monday! I am excited to see more changes and to see how far I can take this, after all there is always room for improvement!
