February 10, 2010 Food Log

Studies have shown people who kept a food log lost more weight than those who did not track their foods. Keeping a food diary, if you will holds you accountable and creates conscious awareness. Starting with breakfast log everything you ate, and yes even if you finished off half of what your kids didn't finish...log that too!! That half a cookie here and there adds up at the end of the day and that can add unwanted calories to your diet. Continue logging your lunch, dinner and any in between snacks you may have had.

If you have a hard time judging your portions by eye I would suggest getting a kitchen scale to weigh and measure your food.

Log your water too...sufficient water intake is essential for the body. Sometimes we feel hungry but what it can mean is that we are thirsty. If you ate and a little while later feel hungry, drink some water. Water also flushes out the toxins in your body...so drink up !!

February 8, 2010/Motivation/Determination

Wow my schedule has become very hectic, I haven't have time to post something everyday. Today I want to talk about determination and motivation or the lack thereof. What keeps you from achieving your fitness/weight loss goals? Is it lack of time? Or so you say (you know who you are). Is it simply because you don't know where to start or what to do? Do you have a gym membership that you don't use? Do you have multiple exercise videos that sit on your shelf that you don't use? Ok, if so, it's obvious your intentions are to get fit. So what keeps you from doing so? Is it that little voice inside your head that says no I don't want to workout today. If so you NEED to change your thinking!! Turn your thoughts into a positive one and tell yourself you are going to start your day off the right way and exercise. You must make a commitment to yourself. You are the only one in charge of your body!! Don't have an all or nothing mentality. Something is better than nothing!

We get motivated when we see results. But how can we get results if we don't start? I hear time and time again "I'm going to start my diet and exercise on Monday". That kills me...why not today?. It's just as good a day as any!! Start slow, decide what you are going to do and do it. You can walk/jog or bike outdoors, you can walk/jog on a treadmill, grab some hand weights and do some strength training. Pilates is a great way to work your core musculature.

I started my journey with P90X 11 weeks ago today. I was determined to change my body and am more motivated than ever since starting this regime. It is intense and I never skipped a day. I am a single mom with a hectic schedule and teach 12 classes a week. There are 24 hours in the day and I'll be damned if I can't find 1 hour for myself. I am fit and want to stay that way. I am determined to keep my journey going with P90X and see how far I can take it and to what level.
